Cyriel Dessers Shuts Down Leverkusen Rumours, Reaffirms Undying Allegiance to Rangers FC
Glasgow, May 28, 2025 — Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has officially quashed speculation linking him with a summer move to Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, declaring his unwavering commitment to the Ibrox club and expressing hope for a contract extension that would see him stay at Rangers well beyond 2026.
In an exclusive interview released on Rangers TV on Tuesday morning, Dessers addressed recent reports suggesting he had agreed terms with the German side ahead of a potential big-money switch. The Nigerian international was quick to set the record straight.
“I don’t know where these stories are coming from, but let me be absolutely clear — I have not agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen or any other club,” said Dessers. “I love it here at Rangers. This is my club, this is my home, and I’m proud to wear this badge every time I step on the pitch.”
The 30-year-old forward, who joined the Gers from Cremonese in 2023, has become a fan favourite at Ibrox with his tireless work rate, clutch goals, and leadership on and off the field. In the 2024–25 season, Dessers has netted 21 goals across all competitions, helping Rangers remain in contention for both the Scottish Premiership title and domestic cup glory.
Despite whispers of interest from Germany and Italy, Dessers said his focus remains solely on Rangers and building a legacy in Glasgow.
“Rangers gave me a platform to play in front of some of the most passionate fans in the world. The atmosphere at Ibrox is electric — it gives me goosebumps. I’m honoured to be a part of this club’s history and future,” he added. “I’m fully committed, and I’d love to sign an extension if the opportunity comes.”
Dessers’ current deal runs until the end of the 2025–26 season, but sources inside the club suggest early talks have already begun regarding a new contract, with the striker’s influence and form making him a key figure in manager Philippe Clement’s long-term plans.
Clement, who has worked closely with Dessers since taking over in late 2023, was quick to back his forward’s comments.
“Cyriel has been nothing short of outstanding for us,” Clement said during a pre-training press conference. “He’s not only a leader on the pitch but also a model professional off it. We’re very happy he’s here, and we’ll do everything we can to keep him in a Rangers shirt for many more years.”
Fans, many of whom feared losing another key player to a major European league, responded with relief and jubilation across social media, praising Dessers for his loyalty and passion.
As the season enters its final stretch, Dessers remains focused on silverware — and silencing doubters with his boots.
“There’s still so much to fight for,” he said. “We want to bring trophies back to Ibrox — that’s the only thing I care about right now. My heart is here, with Rangers, and and it always will be.”
