Hearts Strengthen Squad Ahead of 2025/26 Premiership Campaign

Hearts have officially secured the services of striker Elton Kabangu on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. The Edinburgh club activated a clause in his deal, paying approximately £250,000 to make the move permanent, with Kabangu signing a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old forward made a strong impression after arriving in January, netting eight goals in 18 appearances. His loan included an option to buy, contingent on specific performance-related conditions which have now been fulfilled. Kabangu becomes the third confirmed addition to the Tynecastle squad for the upcoming season, joining right-back Christian Borchgrevink from Norway and Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis.

Meanwhile, Hearts continue to pursue Kazakhstan international Islam Chesnokov. While a pre-contract deal is on the table, the club is keen to bring him in before his current contract with Tobol Kostanay ends on 31 October. Delaying the transfer would leave Chesnokov ineligible to play until January due to registration rules.

New manager Derek McInnes expressed his enthusiasm over Kabangu’s extended stay, stating on the club’s website: “I’m delighted Elton is staying on. We had a really positive discussion last week about how he fits into our plans moving forward. He made a big impact in the second half of last season and with more time to settle, I believe he can do even better this year.”

Kabangu himself expressed gratitude and excitement for the next chapter of his career. “First, I want to thank God for this opportunity,” he said. “It feels great to make Tynecastle my home. The support I’ve received from the club and fans has meant a lot to me. I’ve had some great moments already, but I’m hungry for more. I’m excited to work under the new coach and help bring success to this club.”

He also thanked his former club, Union Saint-Gilloise, acknowledging their recent league title success. “I wish them all the best and hope to lift silverware here at Hearts in the near future.”
