Rangers are set for a crucial and busy summer following a fresh update from Middlesbrough.

After a frustrating campaign at Ibrox, it’s clear that the club faces a significant rebuild if they’re to seriously challenge Celtic once again. Despite a respectable showing in the Europa League, fans in Glasgow have had little to cheer about on the domestic front.

The aim will be to turn things around next season, and preparations are already underway to ensure the team is ready for the challenges ahead.

Pre-season friendly confirmed at Ibrox

Before any serious recruitment or squad changes take place, Rangers must first address the pressing issue of appointing a new manager.

Talks are scheduled in the coming days between Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin, and Andrew Cavenagh. Once the managerial situation is settled, there will be plenty of groundwork to cover.

Having a new manager in place before pre-season is vital, giving them the best chance to shape the squad and tactics early. Middlesbrough, who announced on their official X account that they will travel to Ibrox on July 26, will be among Rangers’ opponents in their summer warm-up matches. The English side is preparing for a strong push in their Championship promotion bid.

Rangers must get it right this summer

Whether it’s recruitment, coaching decisions, or performances on the pitch, Rangers have fallen short in recent seasons.

Another year without silverware has only increased the pressure, with supporters understandably discontent as the gap between Rangers and Celtic continues to widen.

This summer leaves no room for error. Whoever takes over as manager will inherit a massive challenge — to close that gap and restore Rangers as serious contenders.
