Andrew Cavenagh Set for Europe Trip as Rangers Managerial Talks Intensify
Andrew Cavenagh is preparing to travel to Europe to continue negotiations over the vacant managerial position at Rangers.
Cavenagh, who is involved with the 49ers consortium working towards a takeover at Ibrox, has been a regular presence in Govan in recent months. While an official deal for the club remains pending, the American businessman has already been active behind the scenes to prepare for the upcoming season.
Part of this groundwork has included identifying a successor to interim boss Barry Ferguson, and Cavenagh’s upcoming trip is expected to further those discussions.
His involvement has been welcomed as a positive sign of commitment from the billionaire investor, who has been heavily engaged in the search for a new head coach long before the takeover is finalized.
Following Philippe Clement’s expected departure, Ferguson temporarily took the reins but was not retained. According to the Daily Mail (28 May), Davide Ancelotti is now emerging as the leading candidate to take on the role.
The 35-year-old has already held in-person talks with Rangers executives, and Cavenagh’s imminent arrival in Europe suggests the club is moving into the final stages of the appointment process. He is also expected to meet with key figures including Patrick Stewart, Kevin Thelwell, and Gretar Steinsson, with the manager decision at the top of the agenda.
Ancelotti Nearing Ibrox Job
Although Davide Ancelotti’s lack of direct managerial experience presents a gamble, his extensive background alongside his father Carlo Ancelotti in elite football offers strong credentials. His near-decade working at top clubs could give him the edge Rangers are looking for.
The Ibrox board appears increasingly convinced by Ancelotti’s potential, and should a deal be finalized, it will be intriguing to see how he performs—especially given the calibre of names like Steven Gerrard who were also considered.
