Manchester City Finalise Jacob Wright Transfer to Norwich City
Manchester City have wrapped up early transfer window business, confirming Jacob Wright’s permanent move to Norwich City.
The midfielder, who made his senior debut for City under Pep Guardiola in a Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham, impressed during a loan spell at Carrow Road last season. Initially poised to join Swansea in January, Wright instead chose Norwich, and that decision has now been made permanent following an agreement between the clubs.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the deal is worth an initial £2.3 million, with the potential to rise to £3 million through add-ons. The transfer also includes sell-on and buy-back clauses for City.
Although Guardiola had initially hoped to keep Wright around for the season, limited first-team opportunities saw the 20-year-old pursue regular football elsewhere. He settled quickly at Norwich, winning over fans with his composure and flair in midfield.
Speaking in April, Wright expressed a desire to stay long-term: “I’m really starting to build something nice at the club. I’m enjoying it. It’s a good family club. I’m really enjoying the way they play.”
Meanwhile, City continue to benefit financially from previous academy deals. They are set to receive £2 million from Sunderland this summer, triggered by a clause in Patrick Roberts’ 2022 transfer following the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League.
