Ross McCausland’s Rangers Career in Jeopardy as Exit Nears

Ross McCausland’s future at Rangers appears increasingly uncertain after a difficult season that saw his development stall. The Northern Ireland international struggled to make an impression under both Philippe Clement and interim boss Barry Ferguson.

His challenges were epitomized by a costly red card at Pittodrie, where two avoidable yellow cards saw him sent off before Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane salvaged a 2-2 draw.

With the transfer window now open, that incident could prove to be one of McCausland’s last contributions in a Rangers shirt.

Transfer Interest Building

According to reports from Sky Sports and journalist Anthony Joseph, MLS outfit FC Cincinnati have emerged as contenders to sign the skillful winger. Interest is also mounting from FC Basel and OH Leuven, with all three clubs reportedly favoring a permanent deal.

Newly appointed manager Russell Martin is expected to review the squad thoroughly as he begins his tenure under the club’s new American ownership. McCausland, who still has two years remaining on his contract, is likely to be among those under scrutiny.

New Era, Major Overhaul

Rangers have long carried a bloated squad with players failing to meet expectations. The club’s recent recruitment strategy — including the likes of Oscar Cortes and a rotating cast of loanees such as Vaclav Cerny and Abdallah Sima — has highlighted ongoing structural issues.

Despite being given opportunities under multiple managers, McCausland has yet to cement a consistent role in the first team, raising questions about his training performances at Auchenhowie.

With sweeping changes on the horizon under 49ers Enterprises and CEO Andrew Cavenagh, offloading players unlikely to play a major role is seen as a logical first step.

McCausland may well be the first of several departures as Rangers look to reset and build for a more competitive future.
