Vaclav Cerny drawing major interest after standout loan spell at Rangers

Vaclav Cerny is attracting significant attention in the current transfer window following a standout season on loan at Rangers.

The Wolfsburg winger, who joined the Ibrox side on loan last summer, impressed with his displays in the Scottish Premiership, turning heads with his performances in Glasgow.

Barry Ferguson had hoped to see Cerny remain at Rangers permanently, but the Czech international returned to parent club Wolfsburg at the end of his loan.

Now, the 27-year-old may be on the move again, with a big-money offer reportedly in play.

Rangers priced out of Cerny move as interest grows across Europe

According to a Daily Record report (10 June), Cerny’s strong form has sparked interest from across the continent, with offers potentially netting him a £2.9 million annual salary.

Despite Rangers’ recent financial boost under Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, the club appears to be out of the running for Cerny, with Wolfsburg setting a £9 million asking price.

Turkish side Trabzonspor are currently leading the chase for the winger, who became a fan favourite at Ibrox.

Rangers miss out as Cerny’s value skyrockets

While the 49ers have committed £20 million to strengthen the squad this summer, splashing nearly half of that on one player is unlikely. Rangers may now regret not activating the buy clause included in Cerny’s original loan deal, which would have secured him for a lower fee.

With the opportunity to sign Cerny now seemingly gone, Rangers face the challenge of replacing his impact on the pitch—something that won’t come cheap.

Additionally, Ianis Hagi has been allowed to depart despite impressing after his return to the squad, leaving a further creative gap in the team.

Manager Russell Martin will need quality additions from sporting director Kevin Thelwell this summer if Rangers are to mount a serious title challenge and dethrone Celtic.

Overtaking Brendan Rodgers’ side won’t be easy, but expectations remain high for the former Southampton boss heading into the new season.
