MCCOIST’S TOUCHING RANGERS CONGRATULATIONS TO NEW SIGNING

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has delivered a heartfelt tribute to a young starlet joining the Ibrox ranks — and the message came with a personal touch.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s breakfast show earlier today, McCoist took a moment away from the usual football chat to share some uplifting news close to home. The former Rangers striker revealed that his youngest son’s best friend, James Reid, had signed a contract with the club, prompting a warm message of congratulations and encouragement.

“Before I start I’m going to take 30 seconds to wish somebody congratulations and wish him the best of luck,” McCoist said live on air. “And it is my wee pal, wee James Reid — my youngest boy’s best pal. He has worked really, really hard and he is just signing a contract with Rangers.”

The news was met with enthusiasm in the studio, with co-host and fellow former footballer Gabby Agbonlahor jumping in with a joke: “Fantastic. Does he need an agent?”

McCoist responded with a grin: “I think you’ll find you’re looking at him! No, he’s a great talent, he’s a magic kid, he wants to learn. He’s 16. The hard work starts now but congratulations.”

While little is yet known to the wider public about James Reid, his connection to one of Rangers’ most iconic figures and his new step into professional football at Ibrox has already started to turn heads. With glowing praise from someone who has both played for and managed the club, it’s clear Reid has impressed behind the scenes.

McCoist’s remarks were not just those of a proud family friend but also of someone who knows the intensity and expectation that comes with wearing the Rangers jersey. His encouragement highlighted not only Reid’s talent but his work ethic and attitude — two qualities that will be crucial as the teenager takes his first steps into the elite level.

For young players at Rangers, the road ahead is as demanding as it is exciting. The club is known for its high standards and competitive environment, and breaking through the youth ranks is no small feat. But having the backing of someone like McCoist — a man with 355 goals in Rangers colours and legendary status among the fanbase — could be an invaluable source of motivation.

The public endorsement also gives Rangers fans a glimpse into the club’s continuing investment in youth development. In recent years, Ibrox has seen a stronger emphasis on cultivating homegrown talent, with academy players being given greater opportunities to impress.

For now, though, the spotlight shines on young James Reid, who will no doubt be pinching himself after signing with the club he likely grew up admiring — and receiving a rousing shoutout from one of its greatest-ever players.

As McCoist put it: “The hard work starts now.” And for James Reid, that journey begins with both the pride of pulling on a Rangers shirt and the support of a club legend behind him.
