Wigan Warriors Urged to Secure Permanent Deal for “Outstanding” Christian Wade

Wigan, 19 June 2025 — The Wigan Warriors have been urged by fans and rugby league pundits alike to finalise a long-term deal for explosive winger Christian Wade, whose arrival at the DW Stadium has already made waves across Super League.

The 33-year-old former England rugby union star, who signed a short-term deal with Wigan earlier this year following the conclusion of his commitments with Premiership Rugby side Gloucester, has impressed in training and is now viewed by many as a potential game-changer for Wigan’s Super League title push.

Wade, who once famously made a brief switch to the NFL and spent time with the Buffalo Bills, is being heralded as a rare athletic talent. With his combination of elite footwork, top-end pace and killer finishing instinct, his transition to rugby league is generating considerable excitement — and expectation.

“A Player Who Changes Games”

Former Wigan winger and Sky Sports analyst Brian Carney said on Wednesday, “Christian Wade has the kind of acceleration and instinct that you simply can’t teach. If Wigan are serious about building something dominant over the next few years, they need to lock him in permanently. He’s a player who changes games.”

While Wade is still acclimatising to the nuances of league after a career predominantly in union, insiders at the club have been left stunned by how quickly he’s picking up systems and adapting to the faster-paced nature of Super League play.

Club captain Liam Farrell echoed those sentiments after a training session earlier this week. “The guy’s outstanding. Every time he touches the ball in training, you can feel something electric might happen. He’s fitted in with the boys really well too — that helps a lot.”

Wigan’s Wing Revolution

With the Warriors already boasting a solid wing pairing in Liam Marshall and Abbas Miski, Wade’s arrival has added firepower and competition to the backline. Head coach Matt Peet has publicly praised the versatility Wade offers and hinted that his selection chances for upcoming key fixtures are “very strong.”

Despite this, Wade remains on a short-term agreement. With growing calls from both supporters and media for the Warriors to offer him a full-season deal — or longer — negotiations are expected to begin soon.

Rugby league columnist Phil Wilkinson noted in Wigan Today, “This is more than just a novelty signing. Wade has star power, and he’s showing signs of being a serious contributor. Letting him slip away now would be a misstep.”

Building for Glory

Wigan are currently well-positioned on the Super League ladder and harbour ambitions of defending their 2024 crown. With Wade in their ranks, many believe the side could possess the x-factor to outgun rivals like St Helens and Warrington down the stretch.

In a club statement earlier this week, CEO Kris Radlinski hinted that “further conversations” with Wade and his management were already in motion, sparking speculation that a long-term contract may soon be on the table.

For now, fans will relish watching one of rugby’s most naturally gifted finishers in cherry and white — but they’ll be hoping Wigan act swiftly to make Christian Wade a Warrior for good.
