Rangers Transfers to ‘Get Worse’ in Stark New Warning to Ibrox Fans

Glasgow, June 19, 2025 — Rangers supporters have been dealt a sobering dose of reality after a leading Scottish football analyst warned that the club’s transfer window “could get worse” before it gets better, amid mounting concerns about the quality and direction of incoming signings under new manager Russell Martin.

The stark warning comes just days after the Light Blues officially unveiled Max Aarons as their marquee summer arrival, a move initially met with optimism. But the mood around Ibrox is shifting quickly, with fans growing anxious over the club’s transfer activity—or lack thereof—despite high expectations following another trophyless season and significant boardroom backing from investor group 49ers Enterprises.

 “Expect More Frustrations”

Speaking on a well-known Scottish football podcast, former player and pundit Alan Rough voiced major doubts about the current recruitment process.

“Rangers have made one or two eye-catching moves, sure, but I’m being told behind the scenes that it could get worse before it gets better,” Rough said. “There’s real concern about the club’s ability to close deals on priority targets, and they’re facing stiff competition from England and abroad.”

He added, “Fans hoping for a dramatic rebuild might need to lower their expectations. The money is there, but the execution isn’t matching the ambition right now.”

 Missed Targets and Uncertainty

Rangers have already missed out on former transfer target Harry Darling, who chose a move to Norwich City to reunite with Liam Manning, despite working under Martin at both MK Dons and Swansea. The club also failed to convince loan star Fabio Silva to return on a permanent deal, and negotiations with top striking options appear to have stalled.

Sources close to Ibrox claim at least two deals have fallen through due to late financial hesitations or player preference for Premier League clubs. Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around potential exits for key players like John Souttar and Borna Barišić, who could leave before replacements are secured.

 Fan Frustration Growing

Social media reaction has been swift and brutal, with many Rangers fans expressing concern about the lack of decisive moves to close the gap with Celtic, who have already bolstered their squad with multiple early signings.

“Russell Martin talks about a clear vision, but what we’re seeing is confusion,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter). “This squad isn’t ready to challenge, and time is running out.”

 What’s Next?

Insiders suggest Rangers are still targeting at least five more signings across the spine of the team, including a goalkeeper, central midfielder, and two forwards. But with key deals proving elusive and preseason preparations looming, pressure is intensifying on sporting director Nils Koppen and manager Russell Martin to deliver results in the transfer market.

Until then, the warning from pundits rings clear: the road ahead could be bumpier than expected.
