Sky Sports: Rangers Agree to Sell £9,000-a-Week Player Who Had Impressed Martin
Glasgow Rangers have reached an agreement to offload a key first-team player during the current summer transfer window, according to a new update from Sky Sports.
Martin’s No-Nonsense Transfer Strategy
Rangers boss Russell Martin is overseeing a major rebuild at Ibrox, with the goal of narrowing the gap on Celtic and reclaiming the Scottish Premiership title.
Since taking charge, the 39-year-old has shown a clear and uncompromising vision regarding recruitment. He’s made it clear that only players with total commitment to the club will be considered.
“Players must be desperate to play for this club, not treat it as just another option,” Martin said. “When someone tells us they want to weigh up their options, we move on. Joe [Rothwell] had plenty of offers but chose us without hesitation. The same with Manny [Fernandez] – I spoke to Darren, my old boss at Peterborough, who had great things to say. Max [Aarons] had interest from across Europe but decided to join because he believes in what we’re building here.”
Given Martin’s high standards, further squad changes are expected, and it appears one senior player is now heading for the exit.
Rangers Sanction Sale of Robin Propper
Sky Sports reports that Rangers have agreed to sell centre-back Robin Propper back to his former club FC Twente. The Dutch defender, who earns £9,000 a week, joined Rangers last summer but is now set to return to the Eredivisie, pending personal terms.
“Rangers have agreed a deal for defender Robin Propper to return to Dutch club FC Twente. He moved to Ibrox last summer and will now be allowed to return to the Eredivisie if he can agree personal terms. Rangers will also allow the likes of Leon King, Ben Davies, Clinton Nsiala and Jose Cifuentes to depart this summer,” the report stated.
While Martin recently acknowledged that Propper had “really impressed” him, the decision to let the 31-year-old go appears to be a strategic one. The centre-back managed just 21 league starts last season and has struggled for consistency.
With age no longer on his side, Rangers are opting to sell now and reinvest in a younger, more dynamic defensive option to fit Martin’s long-term vision for the club.
