Turkish Super Lig contenders Besiktas are reportedly in negotiations with Rangers over a possible transfer for highly-rated Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande this summer.
Despite finishing fourth last season, Besiktas ended the campaign strongly following the arrival of ex-Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian is aiming to turn the Istanbul giants into a formidable force and has already secured signings such as Tammy Abraham, Felix Uduokhai, and Joao Mario.
According to respected transfer journalist Ekrem Konour, Besiktas have officially reached out to Rangers regarding Diomande. However, the Scottish side are in no hurry to offload the player, who remains under contract until 2028. The 23-year-old is believed to be valued at around €20 million (£17 million).
Why Rangers are eager to retain Mohamed Diomande
Rangers initially brought Diomande in from Nordsjaelland on a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Then-manager Philippe Clement described him as one of Scandinavia’s top young talents.
“There was a lot of interest in him. He’s still young, but already has great experience,” Clement previously noted.
Last season, Diomande made 54 appearances for Rangers, netting six goals and providing nine assists. Many of his standout performances came in the Europa League, where the club reached the quarter-finals.
Known for his energy, endurance, and control in midfield, Diomande is viewed as an integral part of Rangers’ future plans. Nonetheless, clubs like Everton are also believed to be monitoring his situation closely.
Celtic winger Marco Tilio could remain in Europe
Celtic’s Marco Tilio may not be heading back to Melbourne City permanently after a solid loan spell in the A-League, according to Record Sport. The 10-cap Australia international has returned to Celtic for pre-season training under Brendan Rodgers.
Signed in 2023 for around £1.5 million, Tilio has only made two league appearances for Celtic due to injury setbacks. However, he’s reportedly determined to stay in Europe and fight for a place in Rodgers’ squad.
While Melbourne City are expected to maintain contact with the Scottish champions, it now appears more likely that Tilio will attempt to reignite his Celtic career during pre-season—starting with a home fixture against Newcastle United.
