Rangers are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Dutch international Luuk De Jong to strengthen their attacking options, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.

New Ibrox boss Russell Martin has wasted no time reshaping the squad this summer, bringing in several first-team additions including Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, and Jeidi Gassama.

With several departures anticipated before the transfer window closes, the club is exploring more signings—and De Jong has emerged as a prominent target.

Rangers Keen on Free Agent De Jong

De Jong is currently without a club after his contract with PSV Eindhoven expired and talks over a renewal broke down. The experienced frontman, previously hailed as a “prolific talisman,” is now on Rangers’ radar as they look to add veteran leadership and depth up front.

O’Rourke reports that the Glasgow club are seriously considering a deal that could see De Jong sign a two-year contract at Ibrox.

“It would be a bold move if they land him,” O’Rourke said. “He’s set to become a free agent after letting his PSV contract run out, and talks with the Dutch champions have stalled. For a proven player like Luuk De Jong, it’s a chance worth exploring, and Rangers are doing just that. A one-year deal, or a one-plus-one, could be a smart move—he’d definitely bring quality to the team.”

Meanwhile, Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers remains on AEK Athens’ radar, with Martin confirming an earlier offer was turned down. Lille have also agreed personal terms with Hamza Igamane, though Rangers are reluctant to sell and are holding out for a significant fee.

Despite this, a deal for De Jong remains on the table even if both forwards stay, as the Dutchman brings a unique skill set to the squad.
