
A night of celebration turned violent in Glasgow as Celtic fans marked their team’s Scottish Premiership title victory, leaving several police officers injured and resulting in 19 arrests.
Large crowds gathered in the city centre on Saturday night after Celtic clinched the league title with a win over St Mirren. While many fans celebrated peacefully, a significant number engaged in disorderly conduct, including public drinking, vandalism, and confrontations with police.
Police Scotland confirmed that multiple officers sustained injuries while attempting to manage the crowds and ensure public safety. Emergency services were deployed throughout the evening, and several areas of Glasgow were cordoned off due to safety concerns.
In a statement, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We made 19 arrests for various offences including assault, disorder, and possession of pyrotechnics. A number of officers were injured during the disturbances. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
Glasgow City Council also condemned the violence and the damage caused to public property. Clean-up crews were dispatched early Sunday morning to clear debris and repair damaged infrastructure.Celtic Football Club has yet to release a statement, but authorities have urged the club to cooperate in promoting responsible celebrations in the future.
Investigations into the incidents are ongoing, and police have warned that further arrests may follow as they review CCTV footage and public reports.
