Celtic have released a statement ahead of Trophy Day urging fans not to gather in Merchant City’s Trongate area for post-match celebrations.

Supporters have traditionally flocked to the area to mark the league title win, a trend that began after the club reclaimed the Premiership crown under Ange Postecoglou in 2022. However, following a recent appeal from Glasgow City Council, the club has asked fans to avoid celebrating in unlicensed public areas.

The club’s statement read:

“Congratulations on another title and thank you for your incredible support throughout the season. We’re excited to welcome fans to Celtic Park on Saturday for what promises to be another fantastic Trophy Day celebration.

“While we want to mark this achievement in style, we urge everyone to do so safely, respectfully, and with consideration for others.

“In recent months, we’ve engaged with local communities and residents’ groups — many of which include Celtic fans — and it’s become clear that large, informal gatherings in public areas can pose challenges for those who live and work nearby.

“Although past celebrations have been good-natured, they’ve sometimes resulted in serious congestion and difficulties for emergency services, residents, and businesses. The lack of infrastructure at these unofficial gatherings has also raised concerns about fan safety.

“We ask supporters to respect the guidance from local stakeholders and refrain from attending large, unlicensed events that lack proper safety planning and facilities.

“Celtic has been in ongoing discussions with city authorities about identifying more suitable venues for future celebrations. We remain committed to developing organised, safe events for our supporters, similar to those seen in other major cities.

“As we celebrate our fourth consecutive Premiership title, let’s do so in a way that reflects the pride we all feel — safely and responsibly. Thank you again for your incredible backing.”
