During the international break, some Rangers supporters might prefer that their top players stay at home.
Before you include in all of the travel and extra games involved in the international game, the club football season is already jam-packed with games.
Every time the international fortnight arrives, Rangers supporters who have been frightened by the team’s recent injury record are already biting their fingernails. However, one Ibrox player who was left off of the international roster this November may be sulking after his country suffered a rare loss without him in the starting lineup.
Without Mohamed Diomande, Ivory Coast loses.
It may have come as a surprise to Mohamed Diomande that the Ivory Coast left him off of their most recent AFCON qualifying roster.
Since receiving his first call-up to the Elephants squad in March of this year, the 23-year-old Ivorian has been a constant in the lineup.
However, Rangers star Diomande was dropped by the Ivory Coast prior to an AFCON match against Zambia in Ndola, despite having already earned four caps for the Ivory Coast. And it may have been a mistake when the Ivory Coast lost to the Chipolopolo 1-0, allowing them to lose their advantage in AFCON Qualifying Group G.
The West African country will need to improve Zambia’s performance against Sierra Leone in a home match against Chad, as Zambia is now one point ahead of the Ivorians with ten points. A Rangers star talks about the “pressure” at Ibrox. There will have been some discussion in Rangers circles about Ivory Coast’s choice to bench Mohamed Diomande.
The midfielder completed a £4.3 million transfer in the summer after first joining the Ibrox team on a loan-to-buy agreement from Danish team FC Nordsjaelland. But Rangers supporters have only truly seen glimpses of Diomande’s obvious technical skill during his first 11 months in Glasgow.
Like the majority of the Rangers team, Diomande’s admirers want more from him, and in a recent interview, the midfielder was candid about the need for improvement.
Before the Europa League match against Olympiacos, Diomande stated, “There has been a lot of pressure.” We will not conceal it, of course. And although we have recently played poorly, we are working hard to improve, and I believe we are headed in the right direction to reach the standards that the coaches and the supporters hold us to. Thus, we’re making progress.
