Steven Gerrard is reportedly being considered for a stunning return to Rangers as the club continues its search for a new permanent manager.
Following Barry Ferguson’s farewell after the 2-2 draw with Hibernian, which marked the end of the Scottish Premiership season, attention has now shifted toward who will become Rangers’ 20th permanent manager — with Gerrard emerging as the frontrunner.
With Russell Martin expected to drop out of contention, Gerrard now appears to have a clear path back to Ibrox. However, questions remain about who he might bring in to form his backroom team.
According to TalkSPORT host Jim White (21/05/25, 1:22:28), Gerrard is poised to return to Rangers — and he may not be coming alone. White claims that former Rangers midfielder Steven Davis and ex-Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson are in line to join Gerrard at Ibrox, with Davis potentially resuming a coaching role and Henderson tipped to assist both.
While Rangers have retained Issame Charai to maintain some continuity, Gerrard would be expected to build his own coaching team should he be appointed.
Meanwhile, Michael Beale — Gerrard’s former assistant at Rangers, Aston Villa, and Al-Ettifaq — is reportedly in talks with Hull City about becoming their next manager. Beale has been out of work since brief spells with Sunderland and Rangers, but journalist Pete O’Rourke reports that he has spoken with the Championship club following Ruben Selles’ exit.
