Christian Titz Departs FC Magdeburg Amid Managerial Vacancies at Hull, Norwich, and QPR

Christian Titz has officially parted ways with FC Magdeburg, just as Hull City, Norwich City, and Queens Park Rangers continue their hunt for new managers.

All three Championship clubs concluded the season either already committed to a managerial change or seriously considering one. Hull and Norwich dismissed Ruben Selles and Johannes Hoff Thorup respectively, while QPR placed Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave following internal issues.

With managerial roles open, Titz — previously linked to unnamed Championship sides — now presents an intriguing option. The 54-year-old German coach had been in charge at 2. Bundesliga outfit Magdeburg for nearly four and a half years, overseeing 165 matches. His tenure included winning the German third tier in 2021/22 and achieving consistent mid-table finishes in the second division, peaking at fifth this season.

Titz’s exit was confirmed shortly after Magdeburg’s sporting director Otmar Schork shared that the coach had expressed a desire for change following their final game against Paderborn. Although no final decision had been made at the time, confirmation of his departure swiftly followed.

Interest from England had been previously reported by journalist Florian Plettenberg, who also noted that Titz is available for a relatively modest fee. However, competition could arise from Hannover 96 in Germany, who are also considering him as a candidate.

Despite reported offers from Championship clubs, Titz is believed to favour a return to North Rhine-Westphalia, potentially complicating any move to England.

Still, given Hull, Norwich, and QPR’s track record of appointing managers with little or no experience in English football, Titz could be the type of calculated risk they’re willing to take. While there’s no certainty he’ll land one of the jobs, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him unveiled by one of these clubs before the summer is out.
