Arsenal Target Rangers Starlet Rydnn McGuire Ahead of Transfer Window

Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Rangers as the summer transfer window approaches.

The Scottish giants concluded a disappointing season without silverware, with Barry Ferguson overseeing his final match as interim boss in the 2-2 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road on 17 May. The Ibrox side is set for a rebuild, with Ianis Hagi moving on and players like Vaclav Cerny and Leon Balogun no longer in the club’s plans.

Despite the team’s struggles, several individuals caught the eye — and with interest growing, the Rangers board could face summer bids for some of their emerging talents.

One such talent is Rydnn McGuire, who has emerged as a target for Arsenal, according to Rangers Review (21 May). The 17-year-old goalkeeper has impressed for Steven Smith’s youth team and is now attracting attention from multiple clubs, including Everton and Ipswich Town.

The report claims Rangers could command a seven-figure fee exceeding £1 million, potentially including performance-related add-ons, should they choose to cash in on the young stopper next summer. McGuire only signed his first professional deal with the club in January, but talks over an extension could be on the table.

Meanwhile, major changes are underway at Ibrox, with ownership set to shift as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises close in on completing their takeover — an outcome former chairman Dave King believes is “90 per cent” certain. With Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson now tasked with appointing a new head coach, fans are eager to see what direction the club takes.

Supporters are also hoping the new ownership will back the team with significant investment to help narrow the gap on Celtic, who clinched back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles, finishing 17 points clear of their rivals.

The goalkeeper position remains an area of uncertainty. Ferguson lost faith in Jack Butland late in the season, while Liam Kelly performed well when called upon — but many believe a new, elite option is needed to challenge for trophies again.

McGuire’s long-term potential is evident, but a summer sale could provide a welcome financial boost to strengthen the first team for the coming campaign.
