Rangers Make Decision on Robin Propper’s Future Ahead of Summer Window
Rangers have reportedly made a call on the future of centre-back Robin Propper, who is set to be made available for transfer this summer.
The 31-year-old defender arrived from FC Twente last year but has struggled to make an impact in his debut season at Ibrox. While interim boss Barry Ferguson backed the Dutchman during his short tenure, Propper’s inconsistent displays failed to win over many supporters.
With Leon Balogun—one of the club’s most dependable defenders—now departing, speculation had grown around Propper’s status. According to Rangers Review (21 May), the club has now decided to place him on the transfer list ahead of the upcoming window.
His adaptation to the Scottish Premiership has been rocky, and the Light Blues are believed to be keen on cutting ties in the coming weeks to free up space and funds for new arrivals.
Incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell will be responsible for overseeing what is expected to be a major rebuild at Ibrox. Having recently left Everton, Thelwell has already held discussions with Ferguson before the latter’s exit, and his influence will be key in appointing a new permanent manager.
With the 49ers Enterprises takeover nearing completion, the expectation is that significant investment will follow. Fans are hopeful that the fresh backing will lead to stronger recruitment capable of closing the gap on Celtic, who are currently on the brink of another domestic treble under Brendan Rodgers.
The decision to move on from Propper is widely viewed as a logical one given his performances, and further squad assessments are underway. The futures of players like Nedim Bajrami and Danilo are also under review by the new regime.
With ongoing fitness concerns surrounding John Souttar and Dujon Sterling, Rangers are expected to bolster their defensive ranks after parting ways with both Propper and Balogun. Supporters will be eager to see a backline capable of challenging for silverware again next season.
