Scott McDermott thinks that by substituting Robin Propper for Connor Goldson this season, the Rangers have degraded their defensive line.
To cover the gap left by the Englishman, the Dutchman was acquired during the summer transfer window.
McDermott discussed his opinions on the Gers’ choice to sell Goldson on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (18 November).
McDermott remarked, “Goldson appears to be a better player than Robin Propper.”
It wasn’t a rebuild; rather, it was a downgrade, which relates to Philippe Clement and the board discussing rebuilds and team rejuvenation.
“Robin Propper will be paid less than Goldson, and prior to his signing, we were informed that he had been a captain and would take over as Goldson’s replacement in the leadership group, but he is having difficulty getting a start.”
Rangers ought to have retained Goldson, Connor
Many people probably thought Propper would fill the void left by Goldson when he arrived at Ibrox, but sadly, things haven’t quite gone as planned.
Even if Goldson’s season wasn’t the finest, he still seemed to have a lot to contribute to the squad.
Propper will definitely be the less expensive choice in terms of pay, but they have now had to make a qualitative sacrifice as a result of his departure, which has led some to wonder if it was worth it.
The Gers are now nine points behind Aberdeen and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, in third place.
Goldson may have contributed to the Belgians’ turnaround and possibly strengthened their defence if he had remained in the team.
He hardly ever made a mistake during his six years with the club until 2023–2024, and it seemed like he was handled unfairly by club officials.
Clement may have to leave Rangers sooner than he would like if things don’t improve quickly.
