Rangers endured a disappointing 2025–26 season, and attention has already turned toward rebuilding for the next campaign. Their 2-2 draw with Hibernian on Saturday, 23 May, brought the season to a close in a fittingly frustrating fashion. The match at Easter Road was full of drama, with a controversial VAR decision taking center stage and ultimately leaving the Gers with yet another unsatisfying result.
One player absent from that match may have already played his last game for the club.
Midfielder Nedim Bajrami, who was substituted at halftime during Rangers’ 4-0 victory over Aberdeen on 11 May, appears to be on his way out. His replacement, Hamza Igamane, had an immediate impact and helped transform the game, while Bajrami’s performance drew the ire of interim manager Barry Ferguson. He didn’t feature again in the final two matches of the season.
This has sparked speculation that Bajrami could be heading for a summer exit, with potential interest from clubs in Serie A and the Bundesliga.
Derek Ferguson, brother of Barry Ferguson, was surprised Bajrami was given additional chances after his underwhelming showing. Speaking to Ibrox News, he said, “I’m surprised Barry and his staff kept playing him. Personally, I wouldn’t have let him wear a Rangers shirt again after the Aberdeen match. It might sound harsh, but I wouldn’t keep him. If the club can recover the transfer fee, they should go for it.”
Bajrami’s future at Ibrox looks increasingly uncertain. Despite making 40 appearances this season, he registered just five goals and one assist. Having joined from Sassuolo in a £3.4 million move last summer, Rangers now face a challenge in recouping that investment.
While some fans may still hope a new manager can unlock his potential, the more likely scenario is that Bajrami will be moved on—yet another signing that failed to live up to expectations under the previous leadership.
