Rangers’ Managerial Search Nears Conclusion as Ancelotti Set to Overhaul Squad

Rangers’ prolonged search for a new permanent manager appears to be reaching its conclusion following weeks of uncertainty. Since the dismissal of Philippe Clement in February, the club has been without a full-time boss. Interim manager Barry Ferguson briefly stepped in, but his departure was confirmed at the end of the campaign.

Now, fresh reports from Spain indicate that Davide Ancelotti is closing in on a move to Ibrox. The Italian tactician, currently working under his father Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, is said to be preparing to make sweeping changes to the squad upon arrival.

Ancelotti Poised to Approve Triple Exit

Given Rangers’ disappointing Scottish Premiership campaign, a major squad reshuffle is viewed as necessary. With Celtic continuing their stranglehold on domestic success, Ancelotti is expected to adopt a no-nonsense approach in order to close the gap.

Three players are already being linked with exits, just days after the club confirmed departures for Ianis Hagi and Leon Balogun. Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies, who spent the season on loan in League One, have drawn permanent interest from Birmingham City. Meanwhile, Nedim Bajrami is attracting attention from Serie A clubs after a lacklustre debut season in Scotland.

Should Ancelotti take the reins, it’s believed he will waste no time in offloading the trio. Bajrami has struggled to make an impact and appears ill-suited to the demands of Scottish football. Similarly, Dowell and Davies, both approaching the latter stages of their careers, have failed to make a lasting impression at Ibrox. Their potential exits underline the need for better recruitment and a sharper focus on long-term squad planning.

A Ruthless Rebuild Required at Ibrox

Rangers’ recent struggles have allowed Celtic to dominate unchallenged, a far cry from the club’s unbeaten title-winning season not long ago. If Ancelotti is to reverse that trend, he’ll need to conduct a ruthless overhaul of the current squad.

Few players are likely to be guaranteed safety from Ancelotti’s shake-up. A complete rebuild could be necessary if Rangers are serious about re-establishing themselves as title contenders and ending Celtic’s domestic dominance.

The key will be whether Ancelotti is afforded the time and resources required to complete such a transformation. If backed properly, his arrival could mark the start of a new era at Ibrox—one built on ambition, accountability, and a return to winning ways.
