Oliver Bozanic has decided to retire from playing.
After almost two decades, Oliver Bozanic, a former midfielder for Hearts, has decided to retire from sport. After spending the previous ten months as a free agent, the 35-year-old Australian acknowledged that he was hanging up his boots.
Bozanic has chosen to end his playing career after leaving Western Sydney Wanderers earlier this year. He made 60 appearances and scored seven goals during his two years at Hearts, which ran from 2018 to 2020. In one of his last games in maroon, he scored a spectacular goal in the 3-1 victory over Hibs at Easter Road in March 2020, turning into an Edinburgh derby hero.
Bozanic also played for the Australian teams Central Coast Mariners, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, and Perth Glory, as well as the English clubs Reading, Woking, Cheltenham Town, and Aldershot Town, as well as Luzern in Switzerland and Ventforet Kofu in Japan. He participated in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and earned seven caps for his team.
The athlete shared on social media that he has had an amazing journey in his sport of choice. “It’s time to hang up the boots after almost 20 amazing years,” he declared. “My dream was to play professional football, play in Europe, represent my country, and strive to be the best player and person I could be from the first time I kicked a ball.”
“I have benefited more from this lovely game than I could have ever dreamed. It has taught me, moulded me, and moulded me into the person I am today. I will always be in awe of this game’s power. I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this voyage so memorable; I will always cherish these memories.
