Russell Martin is set to begin shaping his Rangers squad following his appointment as manager on 5 June, succeeding interim boss Barry Ferguson.
The 39-year-old, formerly in charge at Southampton, is expected to oversee a major rebuild at Ibrox this summer. He’ll be supported by the club’s new majority ownership group, led by 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh, who acquired a 51% controlling interest in the club on 30 May.
Connections between 49ers Enterprises and Leeds United could prove useful, with Jack Harrison now being linked with a possible move from Elland Road to Glasgow.
Rangers eyeing move for Jack Harrison
Harrison is widely expected to leave Leeds after spending the past two seasons on loan in the Premier League. According to Scott McDermott in the print edition of the Daily Record (9 June, page 46), the winger could be part of Martin’s ideal starting XI at Ibrox, with Rangers in clear need of a new right-sided attacker.
Harrison’s name has emerged partly due to the new ties between Rangers and Leeds, with 49ers Enterprises involved in the running of both clubs.
Smart signing for both clubs?
A move for the 28-year-old could make sense for all parties. Harrison, a former Manchester City academy product, managed just four goals and three assists in 63 Premier League games over the last two seasons, leading to suggestions he may no longer fit into Leeds’ plans.
Despite his struggles in the top flight, the Scottish Premiership could offer him a fresh start and a platform to rediscover his best form. At Rangers, he’d be part of a dominant side, potentially helping him thrive creatively—unlike his recent stints at clubs battling near the bottom of the table, such as Everton.
If Rangers can negotiate a reasonable transfer fee or arrange a loan deal, bringing in Harrison could be a clever move and mark the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the two clubs.
