Nico Raskin Stands Out Amid Disappointing Rangers Season
Despite a challenging season for Rangers, Nico Raskin was a rare bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming campaign. The 24-year-old’s standout performances even earned him his debut for the Belgium national team in March.
Raskin’s form has caught the eye of several clubs, and Rangers could struggle to retain him this summer amid reported interest from Premier League sides including Aston Villa and Leeds United. Whether he will continue at Ibrox remains to be seen.
Raskin Responds to Charai’s Rangers Departure
One figure who won’t be part of Rangers’ plans next season is Issame Charai. The Moroccan-Belgian assistant coach, who was brought in during the latter part of Philippe Clement’s tenure, stayed on briefly following Clement’s exit. However, with Russell Martin now in charge, Charai has officially left the club, having been linked with coaching opportunities in Belgium.
Reacting to the news, Raskin posted a tribute on Instagram (13 June), writing:
“Thanks for everything, Issam. I’ll miss you.”
Rangers Must Fight to Retain Raskin
Raskin contributed four goals and 10 assists during the season and remains one of the squad’s most influential players. He could play a vital role under Martin, but with growing transfer interest, his future at Auchenhowie is uncertain.
It’s essential for Rangers to do everything possible to keep hold of the midfielder, as losing him would significantly hinder their chances of challenging Celtic for the title. The club’s decision-makers — including 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh — need to back Martin by retaining key players rather than selling them off.
Raskin should be offered a new, improved contract in an attempt to fend off suitors, though even that might not be enough if the player is intent on a fresh challenge.
While he’s become a fan favourite in Govan, supporters may have to brace for a potential departure this summer.
