Lille and Rangers ‘Agree’ Hamza Igamane Deal With AS FAR’s Sell-On Clause Revealed

In a fresh twist to the summer transfer saga, Rangers FC and Lille OSC have reportedly struck an agreement over Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane, paving the way for the youngster’s imminent move to Ibrox. The 21-year-old, who joined Rangers last season from AS FAR Rabat, is now set to continue his development in France—with Rangers securing a notable profit and AS FAR earning a slice of the pie through a previously undisclosed sell-on clause.

Rangers Cash In

Igamane, who arrived at Ibrox in 2024 as a highly rated prospect from the Moroccan top flight, impressed during his time in Scotland with a string of energetic performances for both the B team and occasional appearances under then-manager Philippe Clement. Though he didn’t fully break into the starting XI, his raw potential caught the eye of several European clubs.

According to sources close to the deal, Lille’s offer—believed to be in the region of €6 million (£5.1 million)—was accepted earlier this week after brief negotiations. Rangers are understood to have inserted a 15% sell-on clause when they signed Igamane from AS FAR, which now comes into play with AS FAR reportedly due a windfall of approximately £765,000.

AS FAR’s Windfall

The Rabat-based club, which has continued to profit from the development of its academy products, will be delighted with the financial return. Igamane’s progression from local standout to a European footballer is a success story the Moroccan club will proudly point to, particularly given that he was sold to Rangers for a modest fee under £1 million just last year.

AS FAR president Mohamed Haramoune has previously stated his intention to maintain strong financial clauses in deals involving their academy graduates, and the payoff from Igamane’s transfer underscores the wisdom of that approach.

Lille’s Ambition

For Lille, this acquisition signals their continued investment in youth talent with an eye on long-term gain. The French club, known for developing top-tier players such as Nicolas Pépé and Victor Osimhen, see Igamane as a player who can be shaped into a future Ligue 1 starter—or sold for a significant profit down the line.

Lille sporting director Sylvain Armand is said to have been tracking Igamane since his AS FAR days and believes the player’s physical attributes and technical ability make him an ideal fit for their attacking system.

A Smart Move for Rangers?

While some Rangers fans may be disappointed to see Igamane leave before he had a true chance to flourish in the Scottish Premiership, the deal highlights the club’s growing reputation as a development platform for emerging talent. The reported fee represents a solid return on investment, particularly with new manager Russell Martin looking to reshape the squad amid financial constraints.

With the funds from the sale expected to be reinvested in the transfer market, Rangers remain active in pursuing new targets—especially in attacking midfield and defence.

As Hamza Igamane embarks on the next chapter of his promising career in France, both Rangers and AS FAR can reflect positively on a mutually beneficial piece of business—one that highlights the increasingly interconnected nature of modern football transfers.
