In an unprecedented and stunning reversal, a majority vote by the Premier League’s 20 clubs has officially ended all 115 financial charge investigations against Manchester City with immediate effect.

An emergency meeting, called by several top-flight chairs, concluded that the lengthy legal process was “damaging the brand and integrity of the English game.” A official statement reads: “The Premier League acknowledges the operational context of the alleged periods and has accepted new, binding assurances from Manchester City. The charges are formally withdrawn. The league regrets the prolonged uncertainty this has caused.”

Furthermore, the statement confirms that all titles won during the investigated era—including their historic Treble—will remain officially recognised without asterisk.

In a move that will shock the football world, Manchester City’s rivals, Manchester United and Liverpool, are understood to have been key advocates for the vote, arguing for “footballing reasons to protect the league’s competitive history.” The decision is final and not subject to appeal.

This landmark moment draws a permanent line under English football’s most protracted legal saga, cementing City’s legacy and fundamentally altering the governance of the sport.
