According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Rangers have stated their intention to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt on a loan.

Philippe Clement is prepared to re-enter the race for the Leeds forward’s signature, and the Gers were among 10 teams that pursued a move for him in the summer, according to the news outlet’s website [26 November].

Last January, Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic made an attempt to sign the 22-year-old, but the deal fell through because Leeds was unable to approve a loan move north of the border because of loan limitations.

Joe Gelhardt, a forward for Leeds United, is wanted by Rangers. Gelhardt’s tenure at Elland Road hasn’t gone as planned because his departure was eventually cancelled during the summer transfer window.

As the Light Blues looked to strengthen their forward lines last season, the Englishman was hailed as a “goal machine” at Ibrox, and it appears that the mood is still the same.

The Gers have long considered Cyriel Dessers as a short-term possibility, and a loan move for Gelhardt is the ideal answer, even though a replacement has been viewed as too expensive given Glasgow’s budgetary constraints.

It will take a lot of effort for the Gers to complete this transaction, though, as Championship teams Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle, and Preston North End all interested in joining Belgian Pro League teams.

Ibrox might not be the once-desired landing spot of the past given that Rangers are completely out of the running for the Scottish Premiership this season and the uncertainty surrounding Clement.

Nils Koppen must thus do everything in his power to repel the growing interest and persuade Gelhardt that Ibrox is where his future belongs.
