This weekend, Rangers and Celtic both added wins to respective Premiership records.

The champs were the first to play this weekend, and they dominated Ross County. They defeated Don Cowie’s team 5-0 thanks to an impressive first half, and Celtic will now play Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Rangers won’t be rushing to the top of the highlights charts because it was the Sunday lunchtime game on TV. Following a thrilling thumping of Nice in the Europa League on Thursday, former player Jason Holt’s own goal sealed a quiet 1-0 victory over St Johnstone.

On Wednesday, Philippe Clement’s will host Kilmarnock. These are a few recent stories that combine Celtic and Rangers themes.

Against Celtic, Aberdeen would have to deal with an injury concern, and some Hoops supporters might have completely forgotten about the deputy. Ross Doohan, who came through the Celtic academy and had seven loan stints before moving permanently in 2022 with no senior action, is the backup at Pittodrie. Since 2023, he has been at Aberdeen.

In Aberdeen’s 1-1 draw with Hearts on Sunday, Doohan took the place of number one Dimitar Mitov. With Celtic arriving on Wednesday, the Bulgarian’s status is uncertain, which could provide Doohan the opportunity to play against his old team. Jimmy Thelin, the boss, stated: “Let’s see, we need to make a real check on him first, but we needed to change him because he couldn’t keep playing.”

Before I say anything, I want them to see exactly what it is. We’ll have to wait and see, but the good news is that Ross showed up and performed admirably, demonstrating that our team is strong.

While playing for Rangers, Giovanni van Bronckhorst won five titles. Before being fired in 2022 and replaced by Michael Beale, he led the team to a Europa League final and won a Scottish Cup while serving as manager.

He just joined the Turkish team Besiktas for a job, but he too suffered setbacks there. According to reports, van Bronckhorst would receive a cool £4.5 million for his six months of labour. It also includes an eye-watering severance payment of £1 million for his coaching staff and £2 million for him himself.
