Rangers manager Philippe Clement is committed to eradicating the injury woes that have plagued the Ibrox club in recent seasons, severely impacting the squad’s performance.

While the blame for Rangers’ failure to capitalize on their 55th league title success is shared among various factors, the club’s persistent struggles with injuries have played a significant role. Currently, the team continues to grapple with the effects of recurring injuries, with several players sidelined and others striving to regain full fitness.

After Clement spearheaded a revamp of the club’s medical department in the summer, Rangers are set to make another pivotal hire at their Auchenhowie training center. According to the Daily Record, the club is poised to appoint highly-regarded physio Kevin Bain from Aberdeen as their new head physio. Bain, praised as one of the top professionals in the field with a strong track record in injury prevention, joined Aberdeen in 2022 under Jim Goodwin and has since impressed in his role.

Clement highlighted the strides Rangers have made in addressing their injury challenges, referencing last season’s struggles, which at times saw as many as 12 players out of action. Progress is evident, with key players like Nicolas Raskin, Ridvan Yilmaz, and Danilo returning to the squad, and Oscar Cortes, Rabbi Matondo, and Tom Lawrence nearing comebacks.

Reflecting on the progress, Clement said:

“We spoke about that last season, with long periods of having 12 players out. Now, Oscar has completed his first part of training, though he’ll need a few weeks to be match-ready. Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo are also close, likely returning in the next couple of weeks. We aim to keep it that way.”

However, recent setbacks have surfaced. Dutch defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo has returned to parent club Feyenoord after surgery, with a recovery timeline of up to six months, leaving his future at Rangers uncertain. Meanwhile, Dujon Sterling missed the match against St Johnstone due to a trapped nerve and will consult a specialist, though his absence is not expected to be prolonged. Additionally, under-fire defender Robin Propper sustained a knee knock against St Johnstone and battled illness following the Europa League win over Nice, further complicating his adaptation to Scottish football.

Despite the challenges, Rangers remain determined to turn their fortunes around by addressing their injury issues and strengthening their squad’s resilience under Clement’s leadership.
