Celtic and Rangers could benefit from Chelsea’s overcrowded squad during the upcoming January transfer window.

While Celtic are thriving domestically, much like Chelsea in the Premier League, the same can’t be said for their rivals Rangers, who currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, seven points behind Aberdeen under Jimmy Thelin’s management.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea have offered the Old Firm duo the opportunity to sign Carney Chukwuemeka in January. The midfielder, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 for £20 million, has struggled for game time and is not in manager Enzo Maresca’s plans. While Chelsea aim to trim their midfield options, they have no intention of parting with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a player Maresca highly values.

Chukwuemeka, however, is actively seeking an exit and has been offered to clubs across Europe, with both permanent and loan moves on the table. Whether Celtic or Rangers will pursue him remains uncertain.

Additionally, Chelsea are looking to resolve Lesley Ugochukwu’s situation. The French midfielder, currently on loan at Southampton, has not been able to secure consistent minutes. While Southampton are reportedly open to ending the loan early, there is no clause in the agreement permitting this. Chelsea, eager for Ugochukwu to gain more game time, are exploring alternative destinations for him.

With Maresca’s squad gradually taking shape, Chelsea’s efforts to reshape their roster in January highlight their long-term ambitions, offering potential opportunities for other clubs, including Celtic and Rangers.
