Chris Jack believes it is doubtful that Malcolm Offord will be the next Rangers chairman.
In yet another boardroom blow for the Gers, the reporter posted the information on the Rangers Review website on Tuesday, December 3.
According to reports, it is now “unlikely” that the 60-year-old will succeed John Bennett, who resigned due to health concerns. Rangers were forced to start over in their quest for a new chairman at Ibrox, and their decision to hire Patrick Stewart as CEO was viewed as a wise move that helped to defuse tensions behind the scenes. Furthermore, it was generally assumed that Offord, the new chairman, would follow closely after him [Rangers Review, 23 November], but this is obviously no longer the case.
Although the precise causes of this evolution are unknown, it seems like the club is starting over from the outside. As a reminder, Gilligan is currently in charge of things at the top after Bennett resigned in September due to health concerns.
However, it is absurd that a Rangers-sized club still has a permanent chairman. The more significant question is the precise date of the appointment. The Gers could really use someone in place as soon as possible, especially with all the uncertainties surrounding manager Philippe Clement’s future.
Though it sounds like bad news, it’s possible that Offord is no longer in the running since someone better has been identified.
Let’s hope for the best. However, in many respects, it is quite appropriate for the club given the past several months. We can only hope that someone will be located quickly.
