Emi Marcondes has expressed his surprise at how quickly he has settled at Norwich City.
Despite joining as a free agent in October, Marcondes has become a key player under head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, contributing four goals in 10 appearances. Thorup initially urged for patience, as Marcondes had missed pre-season during a five-month competitive hiatus.
“I’m really enjoying being back on the pitch,” Marcondes shared. “A few months ago, I was training alone, and now, to feel the atmosphere and hear the fans is something I deeply missed over the summer. Being able to experience it again has been hugely motivating for me.
“I didn’t expect to feel so good right from the first training session and game. When you train alone, it’s hard to gauge your fitness compared to others. Realizing I was almost at the same level as my teammates, even though match fitness is different, gave me a big confidence boost.”
The 29-year-old has also showcased his versatility, excelling in several positions across the pitch.
“Playing just behind the striker is where I feel I can contribute the most,” said Marcondes, who recently joined teammates Oscar Schwartau, Ben Chrisene, and Norwich City Women’s players Hope Strauss and Liv Cook for a festive hospital visit to the children’s wards at James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.
“But I also enjoyed playing as a false nine in the Bristol game—I thought I did well there too. Against Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff, I operated further back in more of a six or eight role, which I can handle. For now, though, my preferred position is behind the striker. It allows me to use my pressing, defensive skills, and engine to get from box to box effectively.”
