Rangers have been urged to offload Rabbi Matondo for as little as £500,000 to remove him from the wage bill, according to Four Lads.
The Welsh winger, signed for £2.5 million in 2022 【The National】, has struggled with persistent fitness issues and has managed just four Scottish Premiership appearances this season. His latest setback came in the defeat to Celtic in September.
Since arriving at Ibrox, Matondo has missed 56 matches for club and country 【Transfermarkt】, leaving fans increasingly frustrated. Calls for his departure have intensified ahead of the January transfer window.
Commenting via X on 3 December, Four Lads stated: “I took criticism for suggesting we accept £500k just to get him off the books because of his lack of availability. I stand by that. Players like him and poor recruitment have drained our squad.”
A Missed Opportunity to Sell
Rangers reportedly had the chance to sell the 24-year-old during the summer transfer window, with Norwich City expressing interest 【Mike McGrath】, but a deal never materialized. While Matondo has shown glimpses of talent, his inability to maintain fitness has made his time at Ibrox frustrating for both the club and supporters.
Having played just nine more matches than he has missed since joining Rangers, the £2.5 million investment increasingly looks like a poor decision.
January Exit Looms
Matondo has recently returned to training and could make his first-team comeback soon, but many fans fear another injury is inevitable. With the January transfer window approaching, the expectation is that he will be among several departures. However, finding a suitor for an injury-prone player could prove challenging.
