Chris Jack has highlighted a notable shift in Rangers’ financial and squad management strategies, sharing an image from the club’s AGM via X on December 5.
The photo detailed a reduction in squad salary costs and average age compared to the previous season.
Last season, Rangers’ wage bill stood at ÂŁ41 million with an average squad age of 29.7 years. This season, those figures have dropped to ÂŁ35 million and 23.5 years, respectively. Players such as Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, and Todd Cantwell were mentioned as part of Nils Koppen’s strategy to lower the squad’s average age while increasing its asset value.
New signings, including Connor Barron, Jefte, and Mohammed Diomande, have been integral to this plan. The strategy has coincided with significant squad changes over the summer, with 11 players brought in and nine leaving permanently.
While the transition has posed challenges on the pitch, leading to increased pressure on manager Philippe Clement during a difficult start to the season, it seems to be part of a broader effort to stabilize the club financially and strategically.
Despite some short-term struggles, Rangers appear to be taking steps to secure long-term benefits through their revamped approach.
