Mark Ashton, the CEO of Ipswich Town, has assured the fans that he will not allow Norwich City to pass them during his tenure.
His remarks to journalist Stuart Watson of the East Anglian Daily Times coincide with the Tractor Boys’ early-season problems in the 2024–2025 Premier League.
Given that they received consecutive promotions and still require time to acclimatise to life in the top flight, these difficulties are understandable.
They are still among the Premier League’s weakest clubs despite their significant summer expenditure, and given how many additions they made during the last transfer window, it might take some time for them to fully gel.
They are currently in the relegation zone after losing 2-1 at home to AFC Bournemouth last weekend after giving up a 1-0 lead late in the game.
Even if their lone league victory of the season came away at Tottenham Hotspur, it won’t mean much if they can’t guarantee their existence at the end of the 2024–2025 campaign.
They are now headed for relegation, but they have one more chance to change their mind during the January transfer window.
As Ipswich Town struggles, Mark Ashton warns Norwich City.
Fans of the Tractor Boys, who were in League One for a lot of years not too long ago, will be happy to know that they are still higher in the English football hierarchy than Norwich, regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.
“We are not ‘little Ipswich’, we are not’sleepy Suffolk’,” Ashton said Watson, demonstrating his resolve to keep Kieran McKenna’s team ahead of their most formidable opponents. I have no desire to bob along.
“If we don’t, the bunch up the road will pass us once more, therefore we’ll proceed with might and speed. “Not under my supervision!”
