A number of talents have recently established themselves on the banks of the River Wensum, and Norwich City has seen its fair share of talent rise through the ranks at Carrow Road.
While players like Alex Matos and Bali Mumba were also on the books at a young age, Jon Rowe and Abu Kamara are the most recent to leave the team after demonstrating promise as young talents at the football club.
Because Errol Mundle-Smith is a player that has many people talking at such a young age, there are always a lot of eyes on the next big thing that comes along the East Anglian team’s conveyor belt.
We had the opportunity to speak with Zeke Downes, a Football League World’s Canaries fan commentator, about the young sensation, who he believes will be among the next big names to emerge for the Norfolk team.
Errol Mundle-Smith is impressive in the junior setup for Norwich City.
Mundle-Smith has established a solid reputation in Norwich’s academy system, much like Kamara and Rowe did before him. The last two seasons have demonstrated his innate ability to score goals.
The 18-year-old scored three goals in seven Premier League 2 appearances for the Canaries’ young team last season, giving them a total of 12 goals across the under-18 and under-21 age categories. He has also scored five goals in six games this season.
Those keeping an eye on events inside the City junior structure will have taken notice of his brace against a youthful Southampton team, and another goal against Manchester United’s academy will have just enhanced his already growing reputation.
Downes emphasised the teenage striker, who signed his first professional contract with the team earlier this year, as the next big talent waiting in the wings at Carrow Road, even though there may be a lot of stars ready to step up to the big time in the years to come.
“I think the next youngster to break through at the club will probably be Errol Mundle-Smith,” Downes stated in response to a question regarding the situation.
Because I believe it is easier to look good when you are scoring a lot of goals, I believe attacking players frequently have an easier time breaking through.
Although he hasn’t been with us for long, he is doing well and scoring goals, and our youth squad currently appears to be strong. He is therefore succeeding in making an impression there.
Norwich City needs to take note of Abu Kamara’s and Alex Matos’ circumstances with Errol Mundle-Smith.
Due to the Canaries’ lack of first-team football, Norwich City’s best young players have been known to relocate farther away in recent seasons.
In recent seasons, Matos witnessed that firsthand as the midfielder was unable to play for the team before joining Chelsea, where he has played for the main squad and enjoyed a loan stint at Huddersfield Town.
Kamara [shown], a gifted forward who excelled while on loan for Portsmouth last season before submitting a transfer request this summer, is another circumstance that will continue to torment people in Norfolk.
After leaving Carrow Road in August, the teenage sensation moved to Hull City, a rival in the Championship, although he has only made one start for the Tigers.
With Mundle-Smith as the next big thing, the Carrow Road supporters will have a lot of faith that past mistakes have been learnt from, academy prospects will be given every chance to succeed, and their long-term future will be guaranteed.
