According to Lee Dunn, Norwich City’s head of recruitment, negotiations to sign Callum Doyle began “as early as February.”
With major changes made both on and off the pitch, Norwich City is a team going through a transition.
Life under the new manager, Johannes Hoff Thorup, has started off excitingly. Callum Doyle, a summer loan acquisition, has been instrumental in the Canaries’ recent success, as they have amassed 10 points out of a possible 12.
Doyle is currently on loan from Manchester City at Carrow Road. After his contribution to Leicester City’s promotion, many might have assumed a step up was in store, but the Norfolk team managed to pull off the stunning coup.
Lee Dunn, Norwich City’s head of recruitment, has now discussed the club’s hiring procedure with the Pink Un. He stated:
“I communicated with Manchester City in March and his reps likely as early as February. And that continued somewhat till the end of the previous season.
Then, as he is ultimately a Manchester City player, it became evident that we wanted to hire this profile for our game model. This led to a quite intense period of meeting the player and pitching to Manchester City as well.
We had to explain to them our strategy for how Johannes would fit in, how we would help him get better, and how he would play.
In a similar vein, Callum gives you the chance to meet the player at the ideal time. We gave Callum a presentation after he saw the training facility. Johannes is, of course, the most crucial person for him to see. After that, everything is focused on closing the deal.
Promotions on his resume
Norwich City is now in a respectable position in seventh place and will be striving for a promotion this season. Doyle is growing accustomed to receiving promotions in his work.
The 21-year-old is accustomed to receiving promotions despite his youth. He was promoted twice in the last three seasons, first to the Championship with Sunderland in 2022 and then to the Championship with Leicester City last season.
Although Doyle’s experience has not been used, the Canaries benefit from this campaign.
A busy week is in store.
Norwich City will be looking to continue where they left off when they return following the international break.
Before travelling to Preston North End in the middle of the week, Thorup’s team will play again on the road against Stoke City. They will then play Middlesbrough at home to complete three games in a week.
The Canaries will be pumped as they try to maintain their play-off push after defeating Hull City 4-0 in their final game before the break.
