Dundee striker Simon Murray could face retrospective action from the Scottish FA for alleged simulation during the 1-1 draw with Rangers, according to former referee Keith Hackett.
The incident occurred in the first half at Dens Park on Thursday (9 January), when Murray went to ground, claiming he was pushed by Ridvan Yilmaz while attempting to connect with a cross at the back post. Later in the half, another penalty appeal by Murray was waved away, prompting debate on Sky Sports. Hackett, however, believes the first incident could lead to disciplinary measures.
“It is disappointing that the player wasn’t yellow-carded for a blatant act of simulation in trying to deceive the referee,” Hackett told Ibrox News. “Several years ago, the Scottish FA introduced retrospective action for players guilty of simulation. This incident would fit the criteria if they continue to enforce that rule.”
Rangers Underwhelm in Dundee Stalemate
While questions over Murray’s actions remain, the focus also shifts to Rangers’ underwhelming performance. The draw highlighted yet another lackluster display from the team, with Philippe Clement’s tenure increasingly under scrutiny. The board’s decision to delay significant changes until the summer now appears to be backfiring.
As for Murray, he is unlikely to find sympathy for his penalty appeals. Upon reviewing the footage, particularly of the first incident, he may find himself embarrassed by his actions.
