Ahead of the transfer window, two of Sunderland’s top players are reportedly being pursued by Premier League teams.
Two of Sunderland’s best players are allegedly attracting interest from Premier League teams.
Chris Rigg, a 17-year-old youth sensation for the Black Cats, has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea due to his stellar start to the 2024–25 season, which has Sunderland leading the Championship by five points after 12 games.
In a significant boost to Régis Le Bris at the time, the offensive midfielder signed a three-year professional contract at the Academy of Light during the off-season, so Sunderland is well-protected in the event that there are any bids for Rigg in January and the summer of the following year.
But in recent months, Rigg’s goal-scoring exploits against Middlesbrough and Luton Town have heightened rumours that elite Premier League teams are interested in him. According to CaughtOffside, Brighton, Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Manchester United are all interested in the young player.
Additionally, according to their assessment, Sunderland values Rigg at between £25 million and £30 million. With 13 appearances and three goals so far this season, Rigg is the only player to have appeared in every Wearsiders league and cup match.
It is also thought that scouts from Arsenal watched Rigg play against Luton Town. Anthony Patterson, a custodian who has been linked to a move away from Sunderland for the past two transfer windows, was reportedly another target for the Gunners.
However, Sunderland is once again under no pressure to trade their custodian until the price is right because Patterson has a contract with the Stadium of Light that expires in 2028.
