We could have accidently uncovered who the next New York Jets general manager will be.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was recently asked about his vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan — who has taken multiple GM interviews this summer.

“He’ll be missed,” Gutekunst answered.

Eric Edholm of the NFL Media Group reacted to that comment by saying, “Sounds like Gutey knows JES is getting a GM job.”

Sullivan has only interviewed for two general manager jobs this summer — the Tennessee Titans and the Jets. On Friday, January 17 the Titans announced that they have signed former Kansas City Chiefs deputy general manager Mike Borgonzi to a five-year deal to become the next GM.

That that leaves one other team that has spoken with Jon-Eric Sullivan.

It’s crucial to remember that the Las Vegas Raiders have sought an interview with Sullivan, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. However, he has yet to take part in that interview at the time of writing.

We may be drawing conclusions too quickly.

Many thanks to Jets X-Factor’s Michael Nania for assembling these components.

It’s quite possible that Sullivan had a terrific interview with the Jets and felt he was going to be hired by NYJ. He told Gutekunst about this. who then made the remark that “he’ll be missed” because he was so sure that Sullivan was going.

But the entire situation seems a little arrogant.

The Jets haven’t even started their second round of interviews for their next GM yet at the time of this writing. The candidates for the job will be whatever those people are.

“Gutekunst added that Sullivan will be missed, but given that the Tennessee team president spent 13 [years] in Great Britain, he likely believed Sullivan would be hired by the Titans. Although Sullivan recently had an interview and has a contract with the Raiders, he is undoubtedly a possibility for the Jets. On social media, Jets analyst Scott Mason stated, “I wouldn’t make snap judgements.”

How Would Aaron Rodgers’ Future With The Jets Change If Sullivan Were Hired?

At the very least, Sullivan is a contender for the Jets, if not a top contender.

He has been a member of the Packers for the past 21 years. This indicates that Sullivan and Aaron Rodgers met paths in Green Bay for 18 of those years.

Sullivan’s past interactions with Rodgers should only increase his chances of making a comeback in 2025, in my opinion.

Those who are judging Rodgers from a distance and don’t know him well may feel and think very differently from those who have had the opportunity to get to know him.

I can attest that prior to Rodgers’ trade to the Jets, I believed I understood what he was all about. Then, via numerous interviews, press conferences, books, and in-depth pieces written by both Jets beat writers and insiders, I became quite close to him.

My viewpoint and gratitude for getting to know him more had changed significantly.

Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, has stated that the next head coach and general manager of the organisation will determine Rodgers’ future with the team.

Rodgers has yet to make a decision regarding his retirement this summer. However, depending on whether they want him back in the fold, a meeting between Rodgers and the future HC/GM could influence him in one way or another.
