Rangers star Tom Lawrence could be set to leave Ibrox in a move described by Turkish outlet Super Haber as “the transfer that shook Europe.”
According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on 18 January, the former Manchester United player might reunite with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Besiktas. The report indicates that the Welsh international has caught the attention of the Turkish side, managed by Solskjaer, who previously coached Lawrence during his time at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement, potentially paving the way for his exit from Rangers.
Rangers Should Facilitate Lawrence’s Departure
Lawrence, formerly of Derby County, has struggled for consistent form and fitness at Ibrox. This season, he has made just eight Scottish Premiership appearances, contributing three goals and two assists. His last league appearance came in the 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen on 30 October, and he has since been absent from matchday squads.
Given his limited impact, it would make sense for Rangers to part ways with the winger. Allowing him to leave this month could free up wages and potentially secure a transfer fee, which could be reinvested in strengthening the squad.
With players like Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi delivering strong performances on the wings in recent weeks, Lawrence’s departure would not weaken the team. For both the player and the club, moving on appears to be the most practical solution, as the move to Ibrox has not lived up to expectations.
