Rangers Manager Philip Clements Reveals Retirement Age and Future Plans
In an exclusive interview, Rangers manager Philip Clements has shared insight into his future in football and his plans for retirement. The 46-year-old, who has been at the helm of the Scottish giants for three years, spoke candidly about his career trajectory, the challenges that lie ahead, and when he plans to step away from the game.
Clements, who took over the managerial role at Rangers in 2022, has enjoyed a steady rise to prominence within Scottish football. Under his leadership, the club has experienced a resurgence, showing strong performances in both domestic and European competitions. However, despite his current success and the high regard in which he is held, the manager remains grounded when it comes to his career’s longevity.
When asked about how long he intends to stay in football management, Clements didn’t shy away from discussing the inevitable conclusion of his career. He stated that, ideally, he would like to retire in the next 10 to 12 years. The manager emphasized that while he remains fully committed to his role at Rangers, he recognizes that football management is an exhausting job, and his long-term health is something he plans to prioritize.
“I love what I do, and I am passionate about leading Rangers to success,” Clements explained. “But managing a top club like this comes with immense pressure, both mentally and physically. As much as I feel I have the energy and drive to continue, I know that there will come a time when I need to step back and focus on other things in life.”
Clements went on to clarify that his decision to retire won’t be based solely on his personal preferences but will also depend on the circumstances surrounding his tenure. “I think it’s important to recognize that retirement should be a natural transition, not something forced by events or results. If I feel I am no longer able to deliver the best for the team or if circumstances change, that’s when it will be time for me to consider stepping away,” he noted.
Looking further ahead, Clements revealed that he has already started thinking about life beyond football management. One of his key aspirations for the future is to remain involved in the sport in some capacity, potentially through mentoring young coaches or contributing to football education. He is particularly interested in the development of the next generation of football leaders, both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve always enjoyed helping others develop, and I believe the game needs fresh perspectives. In the future, I could see myself working with young coaches, helping them find their feet in the management world. The next step after playing or managing isn’t always obvious, but I want to ensure I continue contributing to the game,” Clements stated.
Despite the challenges that come with managing a club of Rangers’ stature, Clements has remained focused on delivering results. Under his guidance, the team has not only performed well in Scotland but has also made significant strides on the European stage. His strategic mindset and ability to get the best out of his players have earned him praise from fans and pundits alike.
As for his immediate future, Clements is focused on leading Rangers through the remainder of the season. With the club currently fighting for top honors both domestically and internationally, the manager’s focus remains firmly on securing silverware for Rangers.
While retirement may still be several years away, Clements’ reflections on his career so far and his plans for the future reveal a thoughtful and determined individual, committed to both the present and the next chapter of his life.
