According to reports, former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has left his position as manager of Al-Ettifaq, a team in the Saudi Pro League.

The Englishman took over the team in the summer of 2023, but they have only won two of their last 14 games and are presently at 12th in the Pro League standings.

Al-Youm claims that Gerrard, who managed Ibrox for more than three years before leaving for Aston Villa in 2021, has quit in the midst of such a patchy run of results.

The club is reportedly “studying his decision” as they look for possible successors after Gerrard’requested to leave’ because of his team’s recent subpar performances.

The 44-year-old’s request to leave his club was sent to the Financial Sustainability Committee for the Saudi Arabian top division, but a compensation package has not yet been finalised.

“I am not satisfied with the players’ performance and level,” Gerrard stated following a recent tie with Al-Wehda, expressing his dissatisfaction with the way things are going at Ettifaq (RecordSport).

“I consider the draw to be the loss of two crucial points. I accept accountability for the outcome of the game, including lost chances and the decline in performance.

“The Ettifaq Club’s management has given the team all the assistance and transfers they require. Performance has suffered as a result of injuries and the absence of important players.

The Liverpool legend’s decision to leave Rangers a few years ago hasn’t worked out.

After a year and a half in the Middle East, he will likely be unemployed again after less than a year in command of Aston Villa.
