Beren Cross claims that Leeds United executives are perplexed by the transfer rumours surrounding Matt Targett.
Despite connections to the Newcastle United defence, the Leeds United Athletic reporter told X (30 January) that some inside the team are shocked by the origins of the claims.
According to reports, Targett’s present club was willing to let him go for the proper price when the West Yorkshire team enquired about his services [The Athletic, 28 January] [The Sun, 29 January].
Matt Targett is not anticipated to join Leeds United.
Even though Junior Firpo has since recovered from his injury, the Whites were still connected to the left-back during the transfer window because his contract expires at the end of the current campaign and negotiations for a new one have not yet begun.
Furthermore, any additions to the team will only be advantageous because Daniel Farke wants his Leeds team to earn promotion automatically this season.
The 29-year-old has just made one Premier League appearance this season and has had difficulty getting playing time in the North East after sustaining an injury.
Nevertheless, Targett is unquestionably a very good defender who would probably blend in well with a top Championship team if called upon.
Those at Elland Road are unsure of the source of the noise, so it appears that this one is off the cards. The Whites could do worse than sign Targett before the transfer window closes, though, if the manager did decide to make a last-minute bid.
