David Strelec’s father has revealed the details of his son’s unsuccessful transfer to Celtic, and he maintains that a move to the Scottish Premiership winners would have been “great” for his son. With Kyogo out of the Hoops, Adam Idah is now the only recognized first-team striker, with Johnny Kenny serving as backup, despite the fact that he has only made one appearance since returning from his fruitful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.

“Yes, for now it is.” Strelec’s agent Michal Čierny was asked if a move to Glasgow’s east end was off the table after last-minute talks, and he responded, “Yes, for now it is.” Record Sport revealed that Strelec was one of the names that the Hoops were considering heading into the final hours of the winter window. Sport 24 reports that Celtic told Slovan they were willing to pay £8 million for the 23-year-old on deadline day, but the Slovakian champions demanded a £9.5 million payday for the frontman.

“The clubs did not agree,” Milan, his father, revealed in an interview with the same site about a hectic last day for his son. And is David sad?

The world will not end because, first of all, he is a professional and treats it as such. “Slovan was very interested in staying, helping Slovan win the championship and also getting back into the main stage of the Champions League. I don’t take it as tragic either, although a transfer to Celtic would be great.”
