Daniel Farke may need to rethink his strategy by potentially sidelining Brenden Aaronson as Leeds United get set to take on Millwall in the FA Cup this Saturday.
Even though the American has already tallied eight goals and two assists in the Championship this season, he’s expected to be left out of the starting XI for the fourth-round tie at Elland Road on 8 February.
At 24, Aaronson has won Farke’s confidence since moving on loan to Union Berlin during Leeds’ relegation in the summer of 2023. Since his return to Elland Road, he’s become a key player in Farke’s promotion-chasing squad, starting in 29 of the 31 league games this term. However, his performances have been a point of contention among fans.
Despite his goal contributions, many supporters—especially those active on social media as highlighted by Beren Cross—have been critical of his overall play, with some suggesting that it might be time to replace him against Millwall.
There is already talk that Manor Solomon could be the one to fill the No.10 role. In an exclusive conversation with MOT Leeds News, Robinson remarked, “Farke clearly trusts Aaronson, but I’ve been discussing this player all season. The manager has openly stated before the transfer window that the No.10 spot was up for review. While I favor Joel Piroe for that position, Farke has options like Manor Solomon and Dan James. Removing Aaronson in favor of either James or the brilliant Solomon is definitely on the cards.” He continued, “Playing the Welshman in that role might cost him some of his pace, so alternatives like Largie Ramazani or Gnonto could also be considered. Farke has the flexibility to mix things up, and I think he should take that opportunity.”
Manor Solomon, arriving on a season-long loan from Tottenham after dropping down from the Premier League, has been a breath of fresh air for the fans. The Israeli international has firmly established himself on the left wing, contributing six goals and six assists in 24 Championship appearances, and he’s also capable of playing in an attacking midfield role.
With Leeds focused on securing promotion, the upcoming FA Cup clash against Millwall might serve as the perfect occasion for Farke to experiment tactically—potentially benching Aaronson in favor of shifting Solomon into a central role. While Robinson believes several of the current attackers could adapt to different positions, he singled out the Tottenham loanee as the best option to lead the midfield.
