Rangers Fans Tired of James Tavernier’s Excuses After Queen’s Park Defeat

Rangers supporters have grown weary of hearing the same justifications from James Tavernier, especially after his latest comments following their shocking 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park.

The 33-year-old captain had the chance to rescue a point for the Gers with an injury-time penalty, but Callum Ferrie’s save sealed an embarrassing loss at Ibrox. While Tavernier wasn’t the only player to struggle against their second-tier opponents, his role as captain meant he had to explain yet another unacceptable performance.

This result leaves manager Philippe Clement on the verge of being sacked, but given the team’s recurring failures, Tavernier and his teammates must also take responsibility.

James Tavernier’s Words Won’t Cut It for Rangers Fans

Speaking to The Daily Record (10 February), Tavernier admitted:

> “It’s unacceptable. We can’t be losing at home.

I’ve got to do better with the penalty, but everyone has to take accountability.

Being a Rangers player comes with expectations, and if you don’t deliver, you’ll face the fans’ criticism. That’s exactly what we deserved today.”

Rangers Fans Demand Big Changes After Familiar Post-Match Talk

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. In Tavernier’s case, saying the same things after every disappointing performance does little to change the situation.

This isn’t the first time Rangers have been wasteful in attack and passive in their overall play. Their strong home record has often masked these issues, but on Sunday, their luck ran out. The chorus of boos at a half-empty Ibrox made it clear—fans have had enough.

Many supporters believe Tavernier’s time at the club should be up. While Clement’s future hangs in the balance, Tavernier remains in place until at least the end of the season. Despite links to a move away in the past year, the club’s failure to bring in late reinforcements in January means they must make do with what they have.

Clement can point to squad turnover as a factor, but ultimately, it’s the long-serving players like Tavernier who need to step up. His missed penalty was a pivotal moment in one of the club’s most humiliating defeats, but beyond that, his leadership is now under serious scrutiny.

No matter what he says to justify this latest failure, Tavernier should feel nothing but shame.
