Brendan Rodgers last week declined to blame any of the January transfer window’s offenders.
After Kyogo left for Rennes, the Celtic management was unable to find a striker to replace him, and supporters were frustrated by the “shocking” lack of completion of deadline-day tasks.
Jota was joined by Jeffrey Schlupp as the other January addition, although the Scottish champions had little success in the market during that quiet month.
That occurred just days before Celtic made their six-month financials public in order to demonstrate their earnings and cash reserves.
Rodgers was questioned about those finances and if he thought the club supported him.
The Irishman also cited the arrival of record-breaking players Adam Idah and Arne Engels last summer as evidence that the management has made the necessary investments.
You can see some of the additions we made in the summer. They’ve been excellent in that regard. As a club, we want to move forward. “I think the club have done that,” Rodgers stated, adding, “I think the club have been very, very supportive of myself coming back.”
“All of us want to continue demonstrating our abilities at this level. You have to keep building in order to achieve it. Additionally, you must be committed to ensuring that your club is sustainable.
From an accounting perspective, it’s clearly very, very healthy, in my opinion. As managers, we naturally want to invest part of those riches in the team, but as you can see, the club has done just that.
“Hopefully, we can continue to do that.”
Last summer, Celtic broke the bank with a record-breaking expenditure.
Along with Engels and Idah, Auston Trusty cost £6 million to sign, Paulo Bernardo cost £3.5 million, and Luke McCowan also cost money.
Jota cost just under £10 million, which was a good deal considering the Hoops lost their winger for £25 million only 18 months prior, even in January when strikers were mired in misery.
He will therefore have to wait until the summer to formally announce his incredible Parkhead comeback.
